FALL SPORTS ROUNDUP Trojans, Mountain View Christian in HOF game
By DON McDERMOTT
Pahrump Valley will play in a Nevada Athletics Hall of Fame football game hosted by Mountain View Christian in Las Vegas Aug. 30. Kickoff is slated at 4:30 p.m. for the contest between the Class 4-A Trojans and the Saints, who were an eight-man football power for several years and are now in the Southern 2-A League. Mountain View Christian School is located at 3900 E. Bonanza in east Las Vegas. Mountain View was the only team to defeat Tonopah in 2007, winning 16-0 in a regular-season game played in September. In November, the Muckers trounced the Saints enroute to the state Class A eight-man football title. The addition of the Hall of Fame game gives both schools 10 contests this season. Mountain View officials asked if their school could play a 10th game, proceeds from which benefit the Nevada Athletics Hall of Fame. Coach Leo Verzilli's Trojans play their home opener Sept. 5 against Las Vegas Desert Oasis and on Sept. 12, they are at Las Vegas Faith Lutheran for a non-Sunset Region Southwest Division game. Pahrump Valley's Hall of Fame game will be played Sept. 26, with Las Vegas Western the opposition. Mountain View, coached by Raymond LeBoeuf, will play back-to-back games against San Diego schools Army-Navy and Foothills Christian before starting Southern 2-A League action. In the league are Lincoln County, The Meadows, West Wendover, Needles (Calif.) and Ely White Pine. * Greg Leseberg had more than 40 girls at the first PVHS soccer team workout Monday, while Gene Smith expected more than 50 out for boys soccer. Jill Harris had more than 35 girls at the first volleyball team session of the preseason. Only six girls had signed up for the PVHS golf team. There was no report on how many boys and girls were at the first cross country session. * At Beatty, 20 girls reported for the first volleyball workout, but no numbers were available for Hornet football. |
