Police shoot Pahrump businessman in ArizonaPVT
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. -- A Pahrump businessman is recovering after being shot four times by police in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Sunday, Aug. 10. Troy R. Young, 38, is in stable condition at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas after the incident at a Motel 6 here. According to Kingman (Ariz.) Police Department Sgt. Rusty Cooper, a warrant for felony assault has been filed against Young. The Kingman department is investigating the case. Lake Havasu police were summoned to the motel early Sunday morning in response to a domestic complaint. The woman caller reportedly said she was in the room with the suspect, who was apparently hallucinating. She told police the suspect was armed. Police said they heard yelling and two apparent gunshots as they entered a second-floor corridor and stairwell. At that point, according to police, Young appeared from a hotel room with a semi-automatic handgun, which he pointed at the officers. One, a 13-year law enforcement veteran with one year of service in Lake Havasu City, fired at Young and struck him at least four times. Police said the woman was able to escape the room and that cocaine appeared to be involved. Young reportedly retreated back into the room before surrendering. No one else was hurt. The suspect was transported initially to Havasu Regional Medical Center before being transferred by helicopter to Sunrise Hospital. Extradition proceedings were expected in order to return Young to Mahave County, Ariz. Police said Young, reportedly the owner of Pahrump Plumbing, and his un-named girlfriend were at the motel on vacation but were unable to say what sparked the initial dispute or why Young might have opened fire inside the room. Pahrump Plumbing appeared to be locked up this week. [The Lake Havasu (Ariz.) News-Herald and the Kingman (Ariz.) Daily Miner contributed to this story.] |
