Free range day Sept. 6

Las Vegas area hunters and shooters who need a safe and legal place to sight in their hunting firearms may want to mark Sept. 6 on their calendar.

On that day the Nevada Department of Wildlife will host its sixth annual Free Range Day at the Desert Sportsman's Rifle and Pistol Club, 12201 W. Charleston Blvd.

As co-host of the event, Desert Sportsman's has made its range available so hunters who are not club members don't have to worry about finding a place to sight in their hunting rifle.

Shooters will be able to reserve a spot at the 25-to-100 yard range. Range officers and NDOW Hunter Education instructors will be standing by to insure safety and provide personalized instruction.

"This event has become very popular and people look forward to taking advantage of this opportunity every year. We have been fielding calls about this event for a couple of weeks now," said Martin Olson, department hunter education coordinator.

Range time and targets are provided free of charge. Shooting starts at 8 a.m. and will continue through 5 p.m. Space is limited to 20 shooters per hour with each shooter able to reserve at least one hour of range time.

Those who want to take advantage of this opportunity should contact Martin Olson at the Nevada Department of Wildlife at 702-486-5127 extension 3501 to make their reservation.
