Sharpen pencil, cut out the waste
Nye County is one of the largest counties in the U.S.; therefore, it will come as no surprise to you that this county rakes in a freight load of revenue.

Progress changes the human story
WASHINGTON -- The Oxford English Dictionary dates the word "pogrom" from 1905, the year hundreds of Russian Jews were massacred in Odessa. In 1908, there was a pogrom of sorts in Illinois. It occurred in Springfield 100 years ago this week. So, consider the phenomenon of progress, which at the moment seems more contingent than it did just a decade ago.


Movie glasses have come a long way since red and blue
The last movie I viewed in three dimensions required the use of a free pair of cardboard 3-D glasses. The old eyewear was fashioned with red and blue heavy duty cellophane lenses.

Government sponsored enterprises
There are four words one never wants to hear from a friend. And I'm reluctant to use them myself. These four words can come across to the recipient as proud and haughty. At the very best, they can sound indelicate. So it is with great consternation and some reluctance that I open our time together in this space with these very four words. Forgive me, but -- I told you so.

What's with this Edwards story?
Nothing about this John Edwards affair, a phrase we can apply literally, makes sense.
