Las Vegas teams in Legion tournaments

Bishop Gorman and Legacy will represent Las Vegas in two American Legion baseball tournaments, starting Thursday.

Nevada champion Gorman, 66-7-1, will play Arizona at 4 p.m. MDT Thursday in the Western Regional tournament being contested at the massive baseball complex in Surprise, Ariz., just west of Scottsdale.

Legacy, the Silver Division champion, will face Minnesota at 2 p.m. CST Thursday in the Division II Central Plains regionals at Pratt, Kan.

NOTES -- Bishop Gorman went 4-0 to win the Nevada championship at Wilson Stadium, on the UNLV campus ... The Gaels defeated Silverado 10-3, Las Vegas 9-8, Las Vegas 16-3 and Sierra Vista 17-10 ... Keeter Stadium at Veterans Field in Shelby, N.C., will host the double-elimination American Legion World Series Aug. 22-26.

Thursday

9 a.m. -- Colorado (Niwot Post 32, no record listed) vs. Utah (Taylorsville Post 112, 22-2);

Noon -- Hawaii (Honolulu Mid Pacific, 24-3) vs. California (Covina Post 755, 27-2)

4 p.m. -- Arizona (Tucson Post 7, 28-12) vs. Nevada (Las Vegas Bishop Gorman Post 76, 65-7);

7 p.m. -- New Mexico (Albuquerque Post 49, 23-10) vs. Host Team (Anthen, Ariz., Post 128, 24-4).

The tourney continues on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the championship contest Monday. The winner goes to Shelby, N.C., for the World Series.

Thursday

11 a.m. -- Kansas (Colby) vs. South Dakota (to be announced)

2 p.m. -- Minnesota (to be announced) vs. Las Vegas Legacy

5 p.m. -- Wisconsin (Clintonville) vs. Nebraska (Wakefield or Omaha Roncalli)

8 p.m. -- North Dakota (Casselton) vs. Pratt (86ers, host team)

Tournament continues through Sunday.
