HOMEGROWN

HORACE LANGFORD JR. / PVT
Bill and Gretchen Loken work with the Zinfandel grapes grown entirely in Nevada and harvested Monday. Two of the large vats contain grapes from the winery?s own vineyards, their success attributed entirely to Gretchen, who began in 2005 to cultivate the estate-grown varietal in earnest. The Pahrump Valley Winery has won 43 medals so far this year, with about eight more weeks of competitions to go. Some have been "double gold," meaning the entire panel of judges must agree on a wine?s worth.
