Beckett donations top judge hopefuls
By JOSH CHASE
District Attorney Bob Beckett, running for the 5th District judgeship, Department 1, received $24,500 in contributions, beating his closest competitor by thousands. Beckett pulled in several high-dollar contributions, including $5,000 from Mid Valley Enterprises. He also received donations from the Clark and Nye County Development Corp. ($1,000), the Ponderosa Dairy ($1,000), Bragg-Smith International ($2,000), Yulupa Investments ($2,000), Smaxy PAC ($2,000), Shlincoln PAC ($2,000) and the Nugget ($1,000). Incumbent John Davis raked in $15,900 in contributions. His largest donors included William Wahl ($5,000), the Ponderosa Dairy ($3,000) Richard Harris ($2,000) and the Gibson and Kuehn law firm ($1,000). Challenger Marla Zlotek listed $12,262 in contributions, all of which she donated herself. In a related story, the contribution and expense reports filed by Justice of the Peace candidate Kent Jasperson, were incorrectly reported in Friday's edition of the Pahrump Valley Times. Jasperson did properly file the paperwork but a copying error at the Nye County Clerk's Office made that portion of the document unavailable for public viewing. "All I can say is that in the copy transfer, one page was not copied," said Deputy Clerk Sheila Winn. "It was a copier error." Jasperson's contributors included the Ponderosa Dairy ($1,250), Wulfenstein Construction ($900), Nye County Construction ($500) and Robert and Mary Swadell ($500). Jasperson also loaned himself $3,000 to help finance the campaign. The Nye County Clerk's Office regrets the error. |
