Home Depot cuts ribbon later todayOPEN TODAY
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
Home Depot will throw open the doors to its newest store here in Pahrump at 5 p.m. today and anxious locals might be pleasantly surprised to find it's not just another link in the corporation's chain. Traversing through the aisles, residents will find a wide array of sections that cater exclusively to Pahrump and its unique local needs. Not the least of which includes an RV parts and accessories section. "We're the only store in the western region to sell RV toilet paper," Justin T. Keedy, store manager, said during a sneak preview given the PVT Monday. Pahrump's large equestrian and ranching communities will be happy to know the 140,000-square-foot store also carries extra-long fencing, stock tanks and cattle fencing. The store has even enlisted the aid of a local garden expert to ensure that the 35,000 square feet dedicated to the garden center "are tailored specifically for the environment in Pahrump." In another nod to Pahrump's unique needs, the store also carries well and well pump supplies. "We also have riding lawn mowers," Keedy said. "No store in Las Vegas has riding mowers." Also unique to the Pahrump location is the fact that swamp cooler supplies will be available all year around, whereas in Las Vegas stores they are available for only part of the year. And of course, anything available in Las Vegas stores will be more conveniently on hand, including the store's staple: lumber yards and kitchen design centers. The company "worked hard to make sure not to bring in a smaller store," Keedy said. "They figured this community has nowhere to go but up." The store will also have plenty of manpower come opening day, with 120 full- and part-time employees that have been in training for the past few weeks. Keedy said depending on business, that number could increase in the future. Stock for the store started coming over the hump around July 4, and thanks to a hectic month of moving in and loading up shelves, Pahrump shoppers will have a fully-stocked store on the first day its open. And of course, there are the opening day sales, also featuring deals that will only be available in Pahrump's store. "We have the cheapest steer manure in Pahrump," Keedy said, explaining it will be going for 59 cents a bag for a limited time after opening. Additional deals will be found on other products as well, ranging from buckets to light bulbs. |
