OFFROAD RACE STARTS AT BEATTY

Vegas to Reno slated Aug. 20-23

The Best In the Desert-sanctioned TSCO Vegas to Reno off-road race will be staged Aug. 20-24, with pit stops at Cottontail, Klondike, Tonopah and Millers along the 456.5-mile route. More than 200 off-road vehicles, including this truck, were entered in a pre-run last weekend.

Beatty and the greater Tonopah area will be included in the running of the Best in the Desert's TSCO Vegas to Reno off-road race Aug. 20-23.

Four (of 11) pit stops will be at Cottontail, Klondike, Tonopah and Millers along the 456.5-mile route.

The race will begin Aug. 22 on a site 6.5 miles north of Beatty and conclude near Dayton. Motorcycle and quad staging will begin at 6 a.m. at Boiling Pot Road. The first professional motorcycle rider will leave at 6:30 a.m.

At 9:30 a.m., cars and trucks will stage at the same site, with the first vehicle to start at 10:30 a.m.

The race after party, sponsored by the Herbst family, will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Terrible's Sands Regency Hotel in downtown Reno. Awards presentations will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the hotel.

Registration will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 20 in Foyer B (outside the Grand Ballroom) at the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas.

Time trials for Classes 1400 and 1500 will be contested Aug. 21, starting at 6 a.m.

Drivers and riders registration will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the South Point. Car, truck, motorcycle, quad and UTV contingency inspections and technical inspections will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 21 in the parking lot at the South Point. There will be a mandatory drivers-riders meeting at 6 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom.

Starting line -- South Point Hotel in Las Vegas. Vehicles will drive 134.5 miles to start the race north of Beatty.

Escort to starting line -- 1.5 miles.
