Candidates file financial reports
By JOSH CHASE
The latest contribution and expense reports for area political candidates were turned in Wednesday at the Nye County Clerk's and Nevada Secretary of State's offices. Many of the reports actually reached the offices that day, though some are expected to reach the office early next week, a state election official said. State law only requires that the reports be postmarked on the due date. State Assembly incumbent Ed Goedhart raised $34,816 for his campaign. He received several contributions in excess of $1,000, including a $3,000 donation from Li Chu Chang Mok, of Plano, Texas, and a $5,000 contribution from Pacific Recycling Solutions, Inc. Other Goedhart financial supporters include Associated General Contractors ($2,500), Monte and Susan Miller ($1,500), Nevada Realtors ($1,000), Palm Mortuaries ($1,000) and Las Vegas Sands Corp. ($1,000). Goedhart's opponent, Scotty Babb, pulled in $3,447 from donors like the Committee to Elect John Oceguera ($1,000), Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley ($1,000) and the Nye County Democratic Central Committee ($250). County Commissioner Gary Hollis, running to defend his District 3 seat, listed $31,612 in contributions. He reported several $1,000-plus contributors, including the Ponderosa Dairy ($1,500), the Pahrump Nugget ($1,000), Yulupa Investments ($2,000) and the Clark and Nye County Development Corp. ($2,000). Harley Kulkin, a District 3 challenger, reported $1,186 in contributions. Candidate Darryl Lackey reported several small contributions, totaling $740. His largest was a $500 donation from the Terry Group. Jim Petell listed no contributions and Robert "Butch" Dole listed $1,261 in loans he made to himself. District 1 candidate Lorinda Wichman reported $26,459 in total monetary donations. Her contributors include Mid Valley Enterprises ($2,000), Ed and Renae Goedhart ($1,450), Pacific Recycling Solutions, Inc. ($2,500), Bill Wahl ($1,000), Ron Connors ($1,000), Brock Metzka ($1,000) and several other smaller donors. Jeffrey Bobeck reported $250 in contributions. Opponent Robert Mobley had no contributions but listed $2,338 in expenses. A report from fellow commission hopeful John T. Van Loon, as of press time, was yet to be received at the Secretary of State's office. County Commissioner Peter Liakopoulos, whose office isn't up for grabs, reported $2,710 in contributions. His largest contributors were Anthony Tegano and the Clark and Nye County Development Corp. Each gave the incumbent $1000. Liakopoulos listed $2,290 in expenses, including a $500 payment "relating to special events," paid to his wife, Jenny. In the hotly contested Justice of the Peace race, Linda DeMeo reported several contributions in excess of $100, though most came from herself. DeMeo loaned her campaign $8,090. Other contributions included those from Jack Hennigan ($100), William White ($500), Robert Swadell ($500), Mary Fanok ($500) and Mission Ready Group ($500). Opponent Warren Witthoeft reported a single $200 contribution from Paul Witthoeft. Kent Jasperson listed $8,503 in total monetary contributions but didn't report where the money came from. His expenses included $8,152 paid to various parties. Dennis Sugg reported $3,150 in contributions. His donors include James A. Van Zuilen ($1,000), the Saitta Family Trust ($300), C.R. Homes ($500), the Clark and Nye County Development Corp. ($500) and Pahrump Media Group ($450). Luana Miller took in $1,000 from Aldo John Alberigi, of Brown's Valley, Calif. Dorothy Oriondo received $200 in donations. Other Justice of the Peace candidates, including Louis DeCanio, Frank Furcini, Mike Foley, Leonardo Blundo and Dave Abbott reported no campaign contributions. Town board hopeful Mike Darby received several contributions from Linn Jones, totaling $581. He also received a few smaller donations. Jones also contributed to the campaign of Larky White, who received $238 from the contributor. Candidate Sean Brooks took in $1,000 from the Ponderosa Dairy. Lu Komorowski had several donations totalling $1,704. Vicky Parker, Don Rust and Billy Toler all reported no contributions. Nor did school board trustee candidates Tracie Ward, John McNeely, Courtland Ofelt, Harold Tokerud or Kevin Pape. Kathleen Bienenstein raised $1,010. Reports for 5th District Court judge candidates were received by the Secretary of State's office, but a malfunction with that office's Web site prevented the Times from viewing them. |
