Pahrump girls winless at regionals

The Pahrump Valley Junior Division All-stars finished 0-4 in the Western Regional Little League softball tournament at Tucson, Ariz.

Pahrump fell 9-1 to Laurel, Mont.; 7-1 to Bonney Lake, Wash., and 15-5 to Westchester Del Rey, Calif., in games played Thursday through Saturday.

After a day off Sunday, Pahrump Valley lost 18-6 to Scappoose, Ore., Monday, to complete the preliminary rounds.

The bracket tournament started Tuesday and will conclude today at Glick Field in Tucson.

Pahrump played in Pool B, won by Westchester Del Rey with a 4-0 record. Bonney Lake was 3-1, Laurel 2-2 and Scappoose 1-3.

In Pool A, Pusch Ridge of Oro Valley, Ariz., was 4-0, with All City, Manteca, Calif., 2-2; Sunnyside, Tucson, 2-2; Gastineau Channel, Juneau, Alaska, 1-3, and Snow Canyon, Utah, 1-3.

In Tuesday's games, Pusch Ridge played Bonney Lake and Westchester Del Rey played Sunnyside. The regional title matchup is at 7 p.m. MDT, today at Glick Field.

The World Series is Aug. 10-16 at Kirkland, Wash. Qualified so far: the host team, along with Turtle Club (Windsor, Ontario); ASOPFEM of Maunabo, Puerto Rico; Bacolod West (Phillippines) and Windmills Den Bosch (Netherlands).

The West, South, Southwest, East and Central champions will be determined this week.

The West champion will play the East winner at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Other round-robin games will be against the Netherlands Monday, the Phillippines Tuesday, and the Central champion Aug. 13.

Bracket play begins Aug. 15 and concludes Aug. 16. The finals will be televised on ESPN-U at 7 p.m.; a replay will be carried Aug. 28 on ESPN2.

On the Pahrump Valley team were Jessica Courville, Danielle Bayard, Tranyce Rankin, Aubrey Cobel, Sara Zinneker, Tori Rock, Alicia Cazier, Sara Williams, Taylor Ball, Miranda Monje and Brandi Monje.

This was the first year Little League sanctioned girls' fast-pitch softball in Pahrump.
