J.G. Johnson registration

J.G. Johnson Elementary School will hold registration for new students beginning the week of Monday, Aug. 18, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Bring a copy of the student's birth certificate, up-to-date immunization records (new requirements Hepatitis A and Varicella), verification of address (utility bill), parent or guardian photo ID, student Social Security card and last report card or transcript if possible.

Mt. Charleston kindergarten orientation

Mt. Charleston Elementary School will hold a special orientation for "new" parents. A tour of the school along with a question and answer session will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, in the Mt. Charleston multi-purpose room.

Kindergarten students will be pre-assessed starting Monday, Aug. 25, through Wednesday, Aug 27. Times are assigned during registration. Kindergarten starts on Thursday, Aug. 28.

Free massage for walk-a-thon

Caring licensed massage therapists: Anita Kanga, Cindy Church and Mavis Wallace from CC's Beauty Zone and Day Spa, along with other compassionate licensed massage therapists: Ken Burt, Marcelino Martinez and Samantha Sarandos, will volunteer their chair massage skills to the Relay for Life Walk-a-thon in Petrac Park.

They will be located in the Soroptimist booth from 6 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 16.

All donations will be given to Relay for Life.

Casting call

C.L.O.T.H. Christian Theatre is looking for volunteers who would like a part in the play, "He Did What?"

Auditioning is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9, at the Bob Ruud Center located at Highway 160 and Basin Avenue.

This is a Christian play scheduled for Oct. 17, at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

If you ever wanted to act in a play, this is your chance. Come out and have some good clean fun.

Benefit spaghetti dinner

The Girl Scouts of Pahrump are hosting a spaghetti dinner to benefit the Osterman and Rasmussen families 5-7 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Alise, from troop 315, was the sole survivor of the car crash in Utah last month.

The cost is $5 per person and there will be raffles and a silent auction.

VFW in August

The VFW hosts a swap meet the 2nd Sunday of each month 7-3 p.m. on the VFW grounds. Reservations for a spot are $7 if you bring your own table and $10 if you rent one from the VFW.

There is free parking and the Marine Corps League are serving up the hamburgers and hotdogs for a nominal fee.

The American Legion, Riders and Auxiliary meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month 6-7 p.m.

The MOC/MOCA Cooties meet on the 3rd Saturday at 11 a.m., followed by the VFW Auxiliary at 1 p.m.

Women's self-defense

Homeland Heroes and the Nye County Sheriff's Office will offer a two-day self-defense class for women 8-4 p.m., Thursday and Friday, Aug. 14 and 15 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.
