The name of a pilot killed last week during a Red Flag training exercise was released by the Air Force late Thursday afternoon.

Lt. Col. Thomas Bouley, commander of the 65th Aggressor Squadron, was killed last Wednesday morning after his two-seater F-15D airplane crashed about 50 miles east of Goldfield.

Bouley's squadron is responsible for simulating enemy aircraft during Red Flag exercises.

"Colonel Bouley had recently celebrated his 20th year wearing the uniform and had more than 4,200 hours in the F-15 Eagle, the Royal Air Force F-3 Tornado and the T-38 Talon," Col. Russel Handy, commander of the 57th Wing, said in a statement to the press. "He was a decorated warrior, an inspiring leader of airmen and a loving father and husband. He served his country with distinction and will be greatly missed."

The name of the second pilot in the aircraft when it crashed, a Royal Air Force exchange pilot, will be withheld until an investigation is complete, the statement said.

The RAF officer was taken to O'Callaghan Federal Hospital at Nellis and is listed in stable condition, according to the statement.

"The investigation into this mishap began almost immediately," Handy said. "The Air Combat Command Accident Investigation Board will collect and protect evidence from the scene, and gather and analyze all relevant data."

The board tasked with investigating the accident consists of a senior pilot, a maintenance expert, a flight surgeon, a judge advocate and "any other needed specialists," the Air Force said.

Bouley's squadron resumed operations Monday.

"Right now, we're focused on supporting Colonel Bouley's family and the men and women of the 65th AGRS," Handy added.

Red Flag is a combat training exercise held annually at Nellis Air Force Base. American pilots participating in the exercise come from all over the United States.

Crews from nations allied with the U.S. are also asked to participate.

When Red Flag resumes next week, air units from France, India and South Korea are expected to take part.
