About two-dozen people turned out Monday afternoon to see fireworks at the Pahrump Fall Festival Committee's meeting.

The Nye County School District met federal annual yearly progress standards set as part of the No Child Left Behind act for the 2008-09 school year.


Math refresher at Great Basin College
The Great Basin College Academic Success Center's Math Refresher Workshop will take place August 4 through 8 and August 11 and 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. The sessions will originate from GBC's High Tech Center, room 137 on the Elko campus. The workshops will also be broadcast using the college's interactive video distance education technology. Students in Battle Mountain, Ely, Pahrump and Winnemucca can attend the sessions at GBC campuses in those communities as well.

Suspect said detained after brush fire
Approximately 10 acres were engulfed in flames Thursday as the result of a fire started in a mesquite grove at Simkins Road and Leslie Street.

Jailed for sex assault
Alan E. Bigelow, a firefighter with the Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue Service, is still in custody at the Nye County Detention Center after being arrested and booked on three counts of sexual assault last week.
