BEATTY -- Brian Hayes is the football coach at Beatty High School, replacing Gus Sullivan, who guided the Hornets to eight wins in his two seasons in charge.

And in volleyball, long-time coach Mike Duszynski has been replaced by Loy Koeller.

The Hornets' football season begins Sept. 5 here, with Beatty taking on Beaver Dam (Ariz.); kickoff is at 7 p.m. Beatty is in the Nevada Southern Class A League, with defending state champion Tonopah, Round Mountain, Lund, Sandy Valley, Indian Springs and Spring Mountain.

The volleyball team is in Pahrump Aug. 29-30 for the Lady Trojans Invitational tournament, hosted by the Pahrump Valley High School junior varsity. (The varsity team, now in Class 4-A, will be playing in the Las Vegas Invitational that weekend.)

The Hornets' home opener is Sept. 5 against Beaver Dam, starting at 3 p.m. Beatty's spikers are in the Central Division with Tonopah, Sandy Valley, Round Mountain, Indian Springs, Henderson International School and Lund.
