FISHING REPORT
QUAGGA REMINDER: The Nevada Department of Wildlife is asking boaters to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of quagga mussels from the Colorado River system to other waters. Thoroughly clean, drain and dry your boat, trailer and towing vessel before traveling to another water. WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA Bass and trout are keeping anglers of all disciplines busy at this management area about 70 miles north of Ash Springs. Shore anglers are doing well with prepared baits and hardware while fishing from the dams at Haymeadow and Cold Springs. Fly-fishermen are also catching fish. Bass action also is good at those reservoirs as well as Adams-McGill, though weed growth is making access tough. Mosquitoes are thick in the evening hours so anglers will want to bring repellent with Deet. LAKE MEAD Fishing activity has slowed down, though fishermen are still finding top-water action for striped bass from 33 Hole and Government Wash to Boxcar Cove. One angler reportedly caught several fish from a boil near Sand Island while throwing a silver & black Rapala and a chrome Kastmaster. Jigging has also been productive here. Nighttime fishing with anchovies under artificial lights is producing both catfish and stripers. Fishing has been slow along the beaches but anglers are still catching fish near the tires at Hemenway. LAKE MOHAVE Two large stripers -- one weighing in at 40 pounds and the other at 18 -- were fooled over the weekend by an AC Plug of the 12-inch minnow variety. The fish were caught below Willow Beach. Shore angler numbers are down but fishing has been good for stocked rainbows. A six-pound rainbow was caught from the new fishing pier last week and some anglers are reeling in limits. Fishing in the Cottonwood Cove area remains good for shore anglers and boaters. Stripers are active north of the marina and catfish are active to the south. One family claims to have found a cove where the bluegill all but jump in your boat. EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR Anglers are catching stocked rainbows but the action is sluggish. Boaters are generally more successful than shore anglers. PowerBait and worms are the bait of choice. ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR It's mid-summer and that means low water conditions at this Lincoln County water. Fishing is slow but anglers are catching small bass and rainbow trout. URBAN PONDS Bluegill, bass and stocked catfish await anglers at Floyd Lamb Park near Durango and Highway 95 in the northwest corner of the Las Vegas Valley. Bluegill and cats also can be found in the ponds at Lorenzi, Sunset and Veterans Memorial Parks. For bluegill a good bait choice is mealworms. For catfish go with stink baits, night crawlers or shrimp. |
