Rash of vehicle thefts strike Pahrump

A rash of car burglaries occurred in Pahrump that are believed to have occurred from Saturday night through Sunday morning.

According to Nye County Sheriff's Office Capt. Bill Becht, at least seven incidents occurred and are believed to be perpetrated by the same person or persons.

Two cars were broken into on Jack Rabbit Street and five more occurred in the Diamond Bar Estates neighborhood.

For the most part, Becht said items were stolen from vehicles left unlocked, although at least one victim reported his car was locked at the time of the break-in.

Stolen items include everything from radios and iPods to cameras and loose change.

The sheriff's office released a community reminder about preventing vehicle theft on Monday.

Alleged mailbox vandals caught

Two unnamed juveniles were arrested and charged with malicious destruction of private property and conspiracy to commit a crime after an investigation into numerous reports of mailbox and garbage can vandalism led sheriff's office deputies to the suspects.

The events have occurred over the course of the last two months and the suspects who were arrested have reportedly been linked to several of the incidents.

The juveniles will be summoned to juvenile court and dealt with by the Nye County Juvenile Parole and Probation Department.

Computer thief nabbed

The Nye County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man suspected of stealing thousands of dollars worth of property from a Travel Solutions office in May.

An investigation conducted by general assignment detectives revealed Jesse A. Ross, 26, allegedly stole a number of computers and was selling them for $100 each.

Working with the Inyo County Sheriff's Office, a search warrant for Ross's residence in California was obtained and executed last Friday.

Although all of the stolen computers had already been sold, Ross was apprehended and booked into the Inyo County Jail.

An arrest warrant for him in Nye County has been obtained and Ross is now awaiting extradition to California.

Anyone who has purchased a computer from Ross is urged to contact Det. David Boruchowitz by calling (775) 751-7000.
