The only way Faith Lutheran's boys' golf team can lose the Southern Nevada Class 3-A regular-season championship is to not show up and Pahrump Valley win the final league match of the season the Crusaders host Thursday.

The Crusaders moved to 7-0 (70 points) in the league Thursday at Boulder Creek, shooting 410 on the par 72, 6,500-yard desert course in Boulder City.

Pahrump Valley has 62 points after shooting 428. Mesquite Virgin Valley (56) had 445, while Boulder City (45) 455 and Overton Moapa Valley (41) 457 completed the scoring. Team points awards are 10 points for first, nine for second, eight for third, seven for fourth and six for fifth.

On May 8, Pahrump Valley hosts the Southern regionals at Mountain Falls. The top two teams and the top three players on non-qualifying teams advance to the state tournament, to be played May 13-14 on Mesquite-based courses: The Palms and CasaBlanca.

Completing the field will be the top three teams and top five players in the final Northern League regular-season standings.

At Boulder Creek, Cameron Belcher had 79, Will Peers 87, Anthony Franco 89, Elliott Owens 97, Shane Lindemann 85 and Daniel Shimakawa 88 for Pahrump Valley.

For Faith Lutheran, player of the year Yuki Kato had 74, Blake Hampton 81, Mike Mayer 83, Alex Vance 83, Charley Berry 89 and Chad Kaercher 89.

Joshua Chambers had 77 to lead Virgin Valley, with Jordan Smith at 81, Jacob Chambers 82, Doug Hafen 95 and Daniel Mikkelson 110.

For Moapa Valley, Jon Oglesby led with 82, with Brandon Faircloth pacing Boulder City with 81.

Needles, a Class 2-A school, did not compete.

Kato, averaging 74.6 strokes per 18 holes, has 80.5 points in the player of the year title race, with Belcher (78.1) and Hampton (78.7) both at 65 points.
