Pahrump Valley's baseball and fast-pitch softball teams are at home today against Southern Nevada Class 3-A League rival Mesquite Virgin Valley, with varying degrees of urgency facing the Trojans.

How about the rights of PV athletes?
I started covering sports as a high school student in the fall of 1953, and I have been collecting a paycheck for doing it regularly since 1962. So, attribute the following to the views of a veteran observer of athletes in action, coaches doing their jobs, and administrators, while they mean well, not protecting the interests of either athlete or coach ... for whatever reasons.

Fatal boating accidents alarm outdoors officials
Two boating accidents on Northern Nevada waterways in the past two weeks have prompted game wardens at the Nevada Department of Wildlife to warn spring boaters and fishermen about the dangers of cold water and the absolute need to carry -- and preferably wear -- life jackets on spring boating and fishing trips.
