Freedom Fest concert offered for host-less 4th

The Pahrump Freedom Festival, normally a three-day event culminating in a fireworks show to celebrate the Fourth of July, is still up in the air.

The Pahrump Town Board tabled the award of the festival (or rather, the town's reservation of Petrack Park) due to lack of commitment to the event.

The festival, which has been hosted by the International Association of Fire Fighters in the past, is still in need of nonprofit organizations to help host it.

Spay and Neuter All Pets and Strays, or SNAPS, a local group that offers low-to-no-cost spaying services to the community, has expressed interest in being part of the event, but it will take more than one group to run a festival.

Murray explained that people will be needed to set up the vendors, clean up before and after the event, provide security, etc.

Murray explained that Dan Schinhofen, publisher of a local magazine, has been actively soliciting nonprofit groups to participate, although according to Murray he has requested another week to work on the project.

Commissioner Butch Borasky, according to Murray, is currently exploring the option of a parade with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10054.

Nonetheless, James Mulleague with Mullco Productions and Singer Michael Cagle offered to provide entertainment for the festival should it occur.

Mulleague explained that his company is getting ready to go on tour with a "Liberty Rocks" concert series, and the Pahrump festival would be the perfect place to kick off the event.

He said his show would feature "high-level performers" and described it as "a patriotic show with a family-oriented feel."

The company also helps organizations put on events similar to the Freedom Festival.

Mulleague said his company has worked with a number of charitable organizations in the past, including the Ronald McDonald Foundation and St. Jude's shelter (for victims of domestic abuse) in Las Vegas.

"We can help organize, lend our expertise and experience to help you make this a bigger and better festival," Mulleague said.

He added there would be "continual entertainment" throughout the festival that would culminate in a concert featuring everything from contemporary rock to country.

In addition, Mulleague offered to lend his expertise in pageants and hinted at the possibility of a "Mrs. Freedom" pageant.

Mulleague explained that his company could provide these services at no cost to the town because they had sponsors, but did say they would like a concession area near the stage.

However, the company will need groups to work with before any of the plans can come to fruition.

On the bright side, the board has approved a contract with Zambelli Fireworks Internationale, so the nation's independence will at least be marked with the annual fireworks show, if nothing else.
