WITH REGIONALS APPROACHING Trojan golfers on movePVT
With Southern Nevada Class 3-A League matches remaining at Boulder City Thursday and Las Vegas May 1, the Pahrump Valley boys' golf team is manuevering for a strong showing in the regional championships the Trojans are hosting at Mountain Falls May 8. Coach Bob Hopkins' team, which played in an invitational tournament at River Valley, Ariz., Monday and Tuesday, finished second in a league match Thursday at The Palms in Mesquite. The Trojans had 411, just six strokes behind unbeaten league leader Faith Lutheran (405). Mesquite Virgin Valley and Boulder City both had 434, with Overton Moapa Valley at 458. Class 2-A Needles, Calif., shot 515 on the par 71, 6,495-yard course. In the team standings (after six of eight matches), Faith Lutheran has 60 points, with Pahrump Valley at 53, Virgin Valley 48, Boulder City 38 and Moapa Valley 35. For the Trojans, Cameron Belcher earned co-medalist honors with a 75. Anthony Franco had 80, Elliott Owens 82, Will Peers 84, Josh Spradlin 90 and Shane Lindemann 91. Yuki Kato had 75 for Faith Luheran, with Blake Hampton at 77, Braden Bennett 86, Alex Vance 81, Charley Berry 86 and Chad Kaercher 102. For Boulder City, Ryan Roundtree had 82, Brandon Faircloth 85, Nick Stevens 92, Jeremy Dunbar 80, Joe Nunley 95 and Jacob Lynch 103. Virgin Valley's Joshua Chambers had 84, with Jordan Smith at 86, Jacob Chambers 86, Anthony Lucero 91, Justin Cascaden 87 and Doug Hafen 104. For Moapa Valley, Jon Oglesby had 85, while Taylor Stevens shot 83, Casen Lewis 97, Travis Causey 95, Brachen Brown 98 and Cody Kruse 100. Cullen Pottmeyer had 89 for Needles, which had Kevin Hartwick at 97, Nolan Hartwick 111, Mike Rowe 104 and Ken Parker 114. In the player of the year standings, Kato is first with 68.5 points; his strokes-per-18 holes average is 74.7. Hampton is second at 57 (78.3) with Belcher at 55 (78.0). Completing the top five are Mayer 37.5 (82.0) and Joshua Chambers 33.5 (82.8). Franco is at 25.5 (85.2), Lucero 25 (86.5), Peers 22 (85.7), Oglesby 21 (83.4) and Jordan Smith 20.5 (84.7). Owens is 11th at 19.5 (88.7), with Lindemann 12th at 19.5 (87.3). |
