3-A: 11 SCHOOLS LEFT NIAA completes assignments for 2008-09 leagues

Assignments for leagues and sports for the 2008-09 seasons have been completed by the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association. There will be only 11 schools in Class 3-A: Boulder City, Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, Overton Moapa Valley and Mesquite Virgin Valley in the South; Dayton, Fernley, Winnemucca Lowry, Sparks, Spring Creek, Truckee (Calif.) and Yerington in the North. Pahrump Valley is moving into the Las Vegas-centered Class 4-A Sunset Region Southwest Division, along with Bishop Gorman, Bonanza, Clark, Desert Oasis (a new school), Durango, Sierra Vista, Spring Valley and Western. In Southern Class A football will be Beatty, Henderson International School, Indian Springs, Lund, Pahranagat Valley Alamo, Round Mountain, Sandy Valley, Spring Mountain and Tonopah. Northern 1-A football teams will be Carlin, Coleville (Calif.), Eureka, McDermitt, Owyhee, Pyramid Lake, Smith Valley, Virginia City and Wells. Other 1-A schools in the South are Lake Mead Christian Academy and Las Vegas Trinity International. Northern 1-A teams include Austin, Sparks Excel Christian, Gabbs, Gerlach, Jackpot, Sparks Legacy Christian, Reno Sage Ridge and Douglas Minden Sierra Lutheran. In 1-A volleyball, Nevada will be divided into four leagues; definite assignments were not announced. Assignments: Class A Baseball (three leagues) -- Beatty, Indian Springs, Round Mountain, Spring Mountain, Tonopah in Central; Henderson International, Lake Mead, Alamo, Trinity and Sandy Valley in South; Carlin, Coleville, Eureka, Pyramid Lake, Smith Valley, Virginia City and Wells in East and West. Class A Fast-Pitch Softball (two leagues) -- Beatty, Henderson, Indian Springs, Lake Mead, Alamo, Round Mountain, Tonopah, Sandy Valley (South); Carlin, Coleville, Eureka, Pyramid Lake, Smith Valley, Virginia City, Wells (North). Class 2-A (In all sports) -- Las Vegas Andre Agassi, Las Vegas Calvary Chapel, Laughlin (cross country and wrestling only), Lincoln County, Las Vegas The Meadows, Las Vegas Mountain View Christian, Needles (Calif.), West Wendover and Ely White Pine (South); Battle Mountain, Incline, Independence, Mineral County Hawthorne, North Tahoe, Pershing County Lovelock, Yerington Rite of Passage, Silver Spring Silver Stage and Zephyr Cove Whittell (North). Class 4-A There are six 4-A divisions in Nevada, two in the north and four in the south. The Sunset Northwest includes Arbor View, Centennial, Cheyenne, Cimarron-Memorial, Legacy, Mojave, Palo Verde and Shadow Ridge. The Sunrise Northeast teams are Canyon Springs, Chaparral, Desert Pines, Eldorado, Las Vegas, Rancho and Valley. In the Sunrise Southeast are Henderson Basic, Coronado, Las Vegas Del Sol, Henderson Foothill, Green Valley, Liberty, Las Vegas Silverado and Vo-Tech. In the High Desert 4-A League in the north are Elko, Reno Hug, Reno McQueen, Reno North Valleys, Sparks Reed, Reno and Sparks Spanish Springs. The Sierra League has Reno Bishop Manogue, Carson, Churchill County Fallon, Reno Damonte Ranch, Douglas Minden, Reno Galena, South Tahoe (Calif.) and Reno Wooster. |
