Here are some useful guidelines when dropping off recyclables:

Do:

Recycle #1 and #2 plastic jugs and bottles. (look on the bottom)

Recycle envelopes and papers down to the size of post it notes (the sticky stuff doesn't affect recycling);

Old phone books;

Flatten boxes before recycling them;

Rinse or Clean tin cans or glass jars before recycling them;

Take used motor oil to any commercial oil changing service and they should accept yours and recycle it.

Texaco's Xpress Lube on Highway 160 and Basin next to Albertson's has a storage facility for oil and will accept your used oil.

Don't:

Recycle blueprints, fluorescent or dark colored paper;

No tinfoil or lined boxes;

No pet food, charcoal or fertilizer bags;

No used tissues, napkins or paper towels;

No paper that is dirty from food, beverage or other waste;

No broken glass or car window glass.

Don't recycle containers that have food residue stuck to them.

Don't try to recycle batteries in the regular recyling bin. Lithium batteries like regular AA are safe and should be thrown away in the regular garbage. Lead batteries like old car batteries should be taken to the landfill. They should be identified and separated there.
