Relay For Life kicks-off at Honeysuckle ParkPVT
The American Cancer Society is again sponsoring the Relay For Life to honor cancer survivors and the caregivers and pay tribute to those who lost the battle with the disease. The Pahrump community will kick-off the 2008 Relay For Life with a celebration at Honeysuckle Park on Saturday. The event is an informational session for people who want to become involved either on a team, be a team captain, or recruit others to join. There will be entertainment by a D.J. and the Pahrump Valley High School choir will perform as well. Free food and bottled water will be available for those attending. This year, Relay For life is happening in over 4,800 communities nationwide. The kick-off celebration is where families, caregivers, cancer survivors, schools and businesses get together and commit to do their part for the fundraiser held later in the year. The actual Relay for Life event will take place 6 p.m. Aug. 16 until 6 a.m. Aug. 17, where it becomes a community celebration with outdoor barbecues, camping, music, dancing and taking turns walking around the track relay-style to raise funds to fight cancer. At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminaries around the track in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors and friends and family members lost to the disease. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life represents hope those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, those facing cancer will have the needed support and that one day there will be a cure. The kick-off celebration is 1-3 p.m., Saturday, April 20. Call Carla Konochik, 727-6103 for more information. |
