Beatty and Pahranagat Valley Alamo split a Nevada Class A Central Division baseball doubleheader Friday, the Hornets winning 6-5 after falling 8-7.

The Lady Hornets' fast-pitch softball team, however, had a rugged time with the Panthers, bowing 19-0 and 17-0 in games ended by the 10-run mercy rule.

In the first game of the baseball twin bill, Alamo scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to prevail.

Beatty outhit Alamo 11-6, but the Hornets committed six errors, surrendering four unearned runs to make a loser of pitcher Kyle Marchand (eight strikeouts, six walks).

Isaias Flores, a freshman, was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three runs batted in.

Joe Serrano was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Eddie Maldonado had a double and single with a RBI. Ivan Maldonado had two hits and scored three runs.

Byron Gray pitched a seven-hitter, striking out seven and walking seven in the second-game win against Alamo. The Hornet scored the winning run in the seventh inning.

Jacob Sumpter was 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, with two runs scored. Marchand was 2-for-3 with two RBI, with Eddie Maldonado had a double, single and a RBI.

"We played a solid, all-around game," said Brian Hayes, the Beatty coach. "Byron pitched around his seven walks and the defense made the plays when we needed them the most."

Alamo had the go-ahead run on base when Gray got the final out on a grounder to second baseman Serrano.

Beatty will be idle until April 22, when the Hornets host Trona, Calif., in a non-division game. Beatty returns to division play April 25 at Indian Springs.

Tonopah protected its share of the Central lead in softball by sweeping division and Nye County rival Round Mountain 22-2 and 16-6. The Lady Muckers are 6-0 in the division, with Alamo at 4-0.
