Golf season winding down for the PV boys

Pahrump Valley, ranked second in Southern Nevada Class 3-A golf, is at The Palms in Mesquite for a league match Thursday, then travels to River Valley, Ariz., for an invitational tournament Monday and Tuesday, as the regular season grinds to a close.

Two league matches will remain after the trip to Arizona -- April 24 at Boulder City and May 1 at Las Vegas Faith Lutheran -- before the Trojans host the Southern regionals May 8 at Mountain Falls. The state tournament is May 13-14 in Mesquite.

The Trojans were third in a league match April 9 at Falcon Ridge in Mesquite, shooting 434 while Faith Lutheran had 401 and host Virgin Valley had 413.

Overton Moapa Valley had 458 while Boulder City had 469 to complete the team scoring. Needles, Calif., a Class 2-A school which plays against 3-A rivals to complete its schedule, did not qualify as a team because one of its players was disqualified.

For Pahrump Valley, Will Peers had 83, Cameron Belcher 82, Anthony Franco 90, Elliott Owens 93, Shane Lindemann 90 and Daniel Shimakawa 89.

Faith Lutheran had three players shoot under 80, with Blake Hampton at 77, player of the year points leader Yuki Kato 78 and Mike Mayer 79. Trevor Ensign had 83, Chad Kaercher 84 and Alex Vance 86.

For Virgin Valley, Anthony Lucero was the match medalist with 75. Justin Cascaden had 80, Jordan Smith 84, Joshua Chambers 85, Jacob Chambers 89 and Chris Anderson 104.

Jon Ogelsby's 79 paced Moapa Valley, with Travis Causey shooting 89, Brachen Brown 93, Casey Lewis 98 and Taylor Stevens 99.

For Boulder City, Nick Stevens had 86, Ryan Roundtree 87, Brandon Faircloth 91, Jeremy Dunbar 99, Joe Nunley 105 and Jacob Lynch 111.

Cullen Pottmeyer had 95 for Needles.

In the team standings, Faith Lutheran, 5-0 in league matches, has 50 points. Pahrump Valley has 44, Virgin Valley 41, Moapa Valley 35 and Boulder City 30.

In the player of the year standings, Kato is first with 57 points and a 74.6 strokes per 18 holes average. Second at 47 (78.6) is Hampton, with Belcher (43.5, 78.6) third.

Completing the top 10 are Mayer (37.5, 82), Joshua Chambers (31, 82.6), Lucero (24, 85.6), Oglesby (20, 83), Peers (19.5, 86), Smith (19.5, 86) and Lindemann (18.5, 86.6).

Franco ranks 11th at 17, 86.5, with Owens 12th at 14, 90.0. Shimakawa is 14th at 10, 86.8.
