Tonopah won a Nevada Class A Central Division doubleheader from Beatty, 9-4 and 21-6, to square its division record at 2-2 Friday.

Beatty, 1-3 in the Central, entertains division-leading Pahranagat Valley Alamo (4-0) today in a Central doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m.

Wednesday, the Hornets swept a twin bill from Big Pine, Calif., 18-4 and 8-7. Jacob Sumpter was 4-for-4 and a home run and seven RBI in the first game. Gumaro Robles had a hit and two RBI.

Sumpter scored three runs and Marchand was 2-for-4 with three RBI in the nightcap. Mario Roman had the game-winning hit in the seventh inning.

Ivan Maldonado, Kyle Marchand and Byron Gray pitched against Big Pine, allowing 19 hits in 14 innings

"We're 1-3 in the league and 6-10 in all games now," said Brian Hayes, the Beatty coach. "Hopefully, these wins will instill some confidence for our league games against Alamo Friday."

The Clark Jewett-coached Muckers had 14 hits to back up the three-hit pitching of Cody Serfoss in the first game of Tonopah's sweep April 4. Garrett Valenzuela was 5-for-5 with two runs batted in for the Muckers. Mike Dolfin was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Brandon Tappe had two hits, as did Kalei Elliott, who had two RBI.

The Muckers collected 19 hits in the second game. Reese Jones (3-for-3), Dolfin (3-for-3), Tappe (4-for-4), Serfoss (3-for-3) and Ronnie Lowndes (2-for-3) led the assault. They combined for 14 runs batted in. Valenzuela drove in two runs with a hit.

Tappe was the winning pitcher, who allowed five hits and struck out four.

For Beatty, Eddie Maldonado had three hits in the doubleheader. Isais Flores, a freshman, was 2-for-3 with two RBI and four runs scored in the nightcap.

Saturday, the Muckers defeated South Division rival Las Vegas Trinity 28-6, with Tonopah slugging 24 hits.

The Tonopah softball and baseball teams are home Friday, taking on Central and county rival Round Mountain in doubleheaders starting at 1 p.m.

Saturday, the baseball team hosts the Pahrump Valley Junior Varsity in a doubleheader starting at noon.

Tonopah's fast-pitch softball team took over the Central lead April 4, with a doubleheader sweep of Beatty.

The Lady Muckers moved to 4-0 in the division (7-7 in all games) with 18-5 and 15-4 victories against the Hornets.

In the first game, Tonopah exploded for nine runs in the second and led 16-0 after 2 1/2 innings.

Coach Ken Jose's team had 11 hits, with Marilyn Horner and Courtney Guthridge both going 2-for-2. Kayla Misener was 2-for-3, with Britney Klapper, Brittnay Vallarino, Zaira Perez and Patricia Miller each adding a hit. Miller's was a three-run homer.

The Tonopah offense also benefitted from 12 walks and five Beatty errors.
