PAC art for youth classes

Art for Young People, sponsored by the Pahrump Arts Council in conjunction with the Pahrump Valley Museum, is sponsoring free art classes.

The next class will be 11-2 p.m., April 26 at the PV Museum, on Basin Road.

Two classes will be offered, origami boxes and figures and drawing.

All youth must be pre-registered and a parent or guardian must sign the student in and out.

Goldseekers at Primm convention

The next meeting of the Nye County Goldseekers will 1 p.m., April 20, Room B at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Our speaker will be Ed Tomany, chief administrative officer of the Mine Safety and Training Department.

He will talk on various aspects of mine safety and related issues.

There will be time for question and answers after his presentation.

We will also report on results of the Primm gold prospecting show, which is this weekend at Buffalo Bills.

Class of '88 plans reunion

The Pahrump Valley High School class of '88 plans to celebrate a 20-year reunion 7 p.m., Aug. 9 at the Flamingo in Las Vegas.

There will also be a family day at Petrack Park at 11 a.m., Aug. 10.

Seniors go shopping

The Pahrump Senior Center has chartered a bus for a shopping trip to Primm.

The bus will leave the VFW at 9 a.m. and leave Primm for the return trip at 5 p.m. The cost is $20 per person and reservations must be made and paid by April 18.

The Marine Corps League, Pahrump Detachment 1199, will hold a meeting at 10 a.m., April 12 , Wulfenstein's recreation room, off Highway 160 and Postal Road. The recreation room is west of the car wash and RV park.

'Flyball' tournament

There will be a "flyball" tournament beginning at 8 a.m., April 12 and 13 in Petrack Park behind the fire station.

"Flyball' is a team sport for dogs and their people.

Vision Impaired meet

The Pahrump Valley chapter of Vision Impaired Persons will hold a meeting at 1 p.m., April 15 at the Pahrump Senior Center, 1370 W. Basin Avenue.

The meeting will include information about the Vision Forum event held recently in Las Vegas and about the newly hired Veteran's Affairs Vision Impairment Specialist.

The United Way of Pioneer Territory will hold the Jerome Pollock Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 19.

The scramble format with a shotgun start begins at 8 a.m. Registration begins at 7 a.m.

Saitta-Trudeau will sponsor the hole-in-one contest. Player sign-up deadline is April 11.

The Pahrump Valley Garden Club will meet 9 a.m., April 12 at the Pahrump Valley Museum, 401 E. Basin Avenue.

The topic will be "cotton planting time."

Final plans for the landscape tour will be presented.

Pet adoption

The Nye County Animal Shelter will sponsor a pet adoption 10-2 p.m., April 12 at Hollywood Video, 250 S. Highway 160.

The adoption fee for dogs is $64 and $36 for cats and kittens.

Toys for Tots coordinator

Reggie Knight is urgently seeking a replacement for himself as Toys for Tots coordinator.

The position is on a volunteer basis and is a nine-month commitment.

The volunteer will work under the direction of the Marine Corps Reserve.

Responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, organize and execute the annual toy collection.

Two weeks of expense-paid training is required.

The Knights of Columbus Council No. 10780 and the Shadow Mountain Players will present "Curse of the Cobra's Kiss" as a murder mystery with audience participation.

Financial needs workshop

Nathan Adelson and Nevada Federal Credit Union will host a financial workshop for those who want help with budgeting, avoiding fraud and identity theft.

Homeschool bowling league

The Pahrump Homeschool Bowling League is now taking sign-ups for the spring season.

The league is open to all homeschooled children ages 3-17 with parental consent.

The League will play 9 a.m., April 11 to June 20 with a bye week May 2.

The cost is $65 per bowler for the season and includes two games bowled per week, shoe rental, league bowler ID card, a pizza party on the last day and the award ceremony.

Dedication of new church

St. Martin's in the Desert Episcopal church will be dedicating and consecrating the new church building at 10:30 a.m., April 13, 631 W. Irene Street.

Traveling art show installation

The Pahrump Arts Council is sponsoring the exhibit, Robert Cole Caples: Rooted in Nevada.

The art show will be available April 21 through June 13 at the Nye County Courthouse Complex.

PAC will have an opening reception 1-3 p.m., April 25 at the courthouse. Refreshments will be served.

The Pahrump Community Library will host Lifeline screening for blockage in the carotid arteries in the neck, in the legs for peripheral arterial disease and for aneurysms in the aortic vessel in the abdomen on April 24, 701 East St.
