After an all-expenses paid trip to Hawaii and viewing the eruption of Mount Kilauea, Flora Collier decided to come back and create her own eruption in Pahrump.

The Bead Volcano is located at 1610 E. Basin Ave., Suite 103, and offers everything you need for creating masterpieces using beads and more.

Debra Bennett owned the Bead Volcano but decided she wanted to move on, holding workshops, teaching others how to bead necklaces using wire, beads, loom, etc.

"I prefer teaching the craft side and feel Flora will take the store to next level," said Bennett.

Knowing Collier through local beading groups, she offered her a deal that was immediately snapped up. Collier always wanted to own her own shop and was thrilled at the opportunity.

However, one must wonder if the expense-paid trip to Hawaii had anything to do with her decision. Wouldn't you like to be a relative or good friend of Bennett's? Collier did say that it "gave me a whole different attitude about beading, and gave me some ideas about making the tropical theme in the story even better."

One thing Collier is particular about is using Swavorski crystals for beading, but she can appreciate the use of other types. She is self taught beading, but her joy is really owning the shop effective April 1 -- and that's no fooling.

The store offers many products associated with beading to include some of the workhorses such as 'findings' which are wire, jump rings, clasps, seed beads, and much more.

What, you may ask, is the point of beading? Well, for one thing, you can make a lot of different products for sale at craft fairs or even the Fall Festival.

Beads are also used in knitting, crocheting, sewing and more. Franchises are popping up across the country. The convenience of having a store here means local clubs and beaders don't have to drive to Las Vegas for supplies. The shop also offers special order requests.

"It's a great business and the shop has done real well. The ads help," said Bennett.

Collier said the only changes "will be to increase the inventory and see about emphasizing the theme a little more throughout the store. We also plan to increase the number of workshops."

Store hours are Tuesday-Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Go check out the bead curtains that depict tropical scenes -- they're awesome.
