BASEBALL, SOFTBALL Faith teams unbeaten; Beatty's Hornets winlessPVT
Las Vegas Faith Lutheran's fast-pitch softball team held off Overton Moapa Valley to win 3-2 in the first game of a Southern Nevada Class 3-A League twin bill Friday. The Crusaders then ran away to an 11-5 win in the nightcap, remaining undefeated in league games,while dropping Moapa Valley to 0-4. In other softball action, Boulder City and Mesquite Virgin Valley split, the Eagles winning 10-6 and losing 5-2. While Faith Lutheran (2-0) and Pahrump Valley (1-1) were idle Friday, Virgin Valley and Boulder City divided a doubleheader. Boulder City lost 2-1 in the opener, then salvaged a split with a 5-4 triumph. Tuesday, Boulder City played at Pahrump Valley in both baseball and softball. Friday, Virgin Valley hosts Pahrump Valley in baseball and fast-pitch twin bills. In Class A Central fast-pitch softball, Tonopah moved to 4-0 in the division with an 18-5, 15-4 sweep of Beatty, on the Hornets' field Friday. Tonopah, 7-7 in all games, collected 24 hits in the two games. For Beatty, Naomi Cruz was 3-for-3 with a double, with Ali Gonzalez going 2-for-3 in the second game. The Hornets got only three hits off Britney Klapper in the opener. In baseball, Tonopah won 8-4 and 18-6 against the Hornets. Details were not reported.
