Rencher, Dean, Mills pace PVHS at Moapa Valley

Pahrump Valley and Las Vegas Calvary Chapel will be among the teams entered in the Rotary Invitational Track Championships Friday, at PVHS. The meet begins at 1 p.m. at the newly-renovated high school stadium.

OVERTON -- Ashley Rencher and McKenzie Dean, along with Kyle Mills, put on outstanding early-season performances Friday, in the Ron Lewis Invitational Track and Field Championships at Moapa Valley High School here.

The Pahrump Valley trio combined for six victories at the Pirates' complex, where the Southern Nevada Class 3-A regionals will be contested May 9-10.

Rencher threw the shot a personal best 39 feet, 11 1/2 inches to edge Las Vegas Silverado's Amanda Bingson, second at 38-10. Bingson had won the discus with a heave of 133-6, while Rencher was second with a school-record 115-7.

Dean won the 1600-meter run in 5:28.57, the 800 in 2:29.35 and the 3200 in 11:59.06. Brittaney Williams of Class 4-A Centennial was second in the 1600 at 5:39.91; Blythe Thompson of Moapa Valley was runnerup in the 800 at 2:30.38 and Heather Hollinger of 4-A Canyon Springs ran the 3200 in 12:05.79 for second.

Pahrump Valley's girls used those strong efforts to finish fourth in the team standings with 70 points. Canyon Springs had 110, Shadow Ridge 82 and Centennial 80.

Mills won the long jump at 20 feet, 10 inches and the triple jump at 45-11 1/2. James Sayles of Canyon Springs was second in the long jump at 20-4, while Eldorado's Charles White hopped, skipped and jumped 43 feet, 1/2 inch.

Pahrump Valley's boys were ninth in the team standings with 31 1/2 points. The Trojans trailed Shadow Ridge (117 1/2), Canyon Springs (87), Silverado (73 1/2), Valley (60 1/2), Centennial (48), 3-A Mesquite Virgin Valley (47) Boulder City (38) and Eldorado (33 1/2).

Scoring for the Trojans were:

Tee Tee Hughes, second, 100 hurdles, 0:16.62;

Ashley Lindgren, eighth, 100, 0:13.76; third, 400, 1:01.23; fifth, 200, 0:27.41; fourth, long jump, 15 1/2.

Pahrump Valley's boys 4x100 relay team, eighth, 0:46.51;

Sergio Castro, eighth, 400, 0:53.04;

Darius Dolly, seventh, 200, 0:24.01; sixth, long jump, 18-9 1/4;

Zach Weldon, eighth, discus, 114-8;

Eric Chapman, fifth, pole vault, 11-6.

Pahrump Valley will host the Rotary Invitational Friday, starting at 1 p.m.

Entered are Beatty, Boulder City, Las Vegas Calvary Chapel, Durango, Faith Lutheran, Indian Springs, Laughlin, Lincoln County, Spring Mountain, Tonopah, Ely White Pine, Henderson Basic, Las Vegas Spring Valley, Las Vegas Trinity and Las Vegas Andre Agassi Prep.
