Calvary Chapel, Laughlin claim titles in track at Indian Springs

Beatty's boys were third, while the Lady Hornets were fourth in the Indian Springs Invitaitonal Track and Field Championships contested Friday. The Hornets are entered in the Rotary Invitational at Pahrump Valley High School Friday, starting at 1 p.m.

INDIAN SPRINGS -- Las Vegas Calvary Chapel's boys and Laughlin's girls won team titles in the Indian Springs Invitational Track Championships Friday.

Beatty's boys were third with 70 points; Tonopah had 65 for fifth, and Round Mountain was last among the 10 teams with 12 points.

In the girls' meet, Round Mountain was a distant second with 102 points. Beatty was fourth with 77 and Tonopah fifth with 54.

Kevin Valentine of Tonopah won the boys' 800-meter run in 2:14.3 and Ricardo Martinez of Beatty was first in the 1600 in 5:16.6.

Beatty won the 4x100 relay in 0:47.

In the girls meet, Blanca Ramirez of Round Mountain won the 800 in 2:52.9; Beatty won the 4x400 relay in 4:54.4; Katreena Akers of Round Mountain was first in the triple jump at 30 feet, 1 1/2 inches and Callie Dorn of Round Mountain was first in the shot put at 29-2.

Beatty and Tonopah will compete Friday in the annual Rotary Invitational at Pahrump Valley High School, starting at 1 p.m.

Also entered are Boulder City, Calvary Chapel, Las Vegas Durango, Faith Lutheran, Indian Springs, Laughlin, Spring Mountain, Ely White Pine, Henderson Basic, Las Vegas Spring Valley, Las Vegas Trinity and Las Vegas Agassi Prep, along with the host Trojans.
