(Matilda) Jane DeMeo-Fernandez

(Matilda) Jane DeMeo-Fernandez, the "Cheesecake Lady," passed away April 4, 2008 in Pahrump.

She was born April 12, 1928, in Edinburgh, Scotland and was a resident of Pahrump for 13 years, having come from Las Vegas, where she had lived for 19 years.

Jane arrived in New York City when she was six-years-old, with father William J. Jamieson; brother Joseph Jamieson and sister Sarah.

She worked in food services for Canonsburg General Hospital in Canonsburg, Pa., as a school crossing guard for the New York City Police Department, as a gas station attendant, a singer and a waitress in Brooklyn, N.Y., as a waitress in Jersey City, N.J., as a Keno writer at the El Cortez Casino and a newspaper delivery person in Las Vegas and a caregiver in Pahrump.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and a member of the church choir.

Her brother Joseph Jamieson of Summerfield, Fla; sister Sarah Kelly of Middletown, N.Y.; sons Sheriff Anthony L. DeMeo and daughter-in-law Linda M. DeMeo of Pahrump, Louis C. (Darlene) DeMeo of Edison, N.J. and Jason (Shannon) Fernandez of Las Vegas; daughters Matty (Charles) DeMeo-Phillips of Henderson and Kathleen Bandiero of Pahrump; grandchildren Christopher DeMeo, Anthony Bandiero, Ricky Bandiero, Lorena DeMeo, Michele DeMeo, Louis DeMeo and Corbin Fernandez and great-grandchildren Breanna DeMeo and Carson Bandiero survive her.

She was preceded in death by her mother Sarah Miller and father William J. Jamieson.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., April 10 at Pahrump Family Mortuary. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m., April 11 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice. (04/04/2008)

Daniel Lee Rawlins

Daniel Lee Rawlins, 71, passed away April 5, 2008, in Pahrump.

He was born Jan. 29, 1937 in Portsmouth, Ohio and was a resident of Pahrump for 10 years, having come from Orange, Calif.

He was in science and engineering for Rockwell/ Boeing and retired in 1995.

He was a member of the Elks in Orange, of the Christian faith and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in Korea.

His wife Joanna Rawlins of Pahrump; daughters Christine Siegmund of Tehachapi, Calif. and Toni Nelson of Anaheim, Calif; son Daniel L. Rawlins Jr. of Huntington Beach, Calif.; brother Donald Elliott of Beach Park, Ill.; sisters Audrey Hettinger and Candace Elliott, both of Ohio; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m., April 14 at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. A memorial service will follow 3:30 p.m., at Pahrump Family Mortuary.
