Toys for Tots coordinator

Reggie Knight is urgently seeking a replacement for himself as Toys for Tots coordinator.

The position is on a volunteer basis and is a nine-month commitment.

The volunteer will work under the direction of the Marine Corps Reserve.

Responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, organize and execute the annual toy collection.

Two weeks of expense-paid training is required.

The Pahrump Earth Day Celebration will be 10-4 p.m., April 19 at Honeysuckle Park.

Library offers Shakespeare

The Pahrump Community Library's Tumbleweed Tales Poetry Group is offering a new class.

"Shakespeare Made Simple" presents Shakespeare's plays in a way that makes it easier for all to understand.

The sessions will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesdays beginning April 8 at the library.

The first play will be "The Taming of the Shrew." Bring your own copy or copies will be provided by the library. The class is free.

Murder Mystery theater

The Knights of Columbus Council No. 10780 and the Shadow Mountain Players will present "Curse of the Cobra's Kiss" as a murder mystery with audience participation.

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m., April 11 and 12, Our Lady of the Valley Parish Hall 781 E. Gamebird Road.

Tickets are available at Secret Sisters Boutique, Pahrump Community Library and the church office. The cost is $10 per person.

Refreshments will be available for purchase.

The ongoing poetry series will meet 10 a.m.-noon, April 12 at Lois Layne's Deli, just off Highway 160 on Basin Avenue, corner of Basin Avenue and Dahlia Road.

The Pahrump Valley High School class of '88 plans to celebrate a 20-year reunion 7 p.m., Aug. 9 at the Flamingo in Las Vegas.

There will also be a family day at Petrack Park at 11 a.m., Aug. 10.

WEOP meeting

The Women Entrepreneurs of Pahrump will meet 6:30 p.m., April 9 at Great Basin College.

This is a networking group of women who either own or want to own businesses.

The group meets every second and fourth Wednesday.

Free tax aide service

IRS trained counselors will be offering their services at the Bob Ruud Community Center, Room B, Basin Road and Highway 160.

The goal is to provide free tax preparation and e-filing to young, low-income taxpayers and working seniors who may qualify for the earned income tax credit and may not be receiving it.

The volunteers will be available Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., during the tax season through April 20.

Appointments are necessary.

DAR meets

The Pahrump Springs chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 10 a.m., April 9 at the Pahrump Community Library.

Hannah Montana books

The Pahrump Community Library now has the newest series of Hannah Montana books available for check-out.

The books are based on the popular TV series.

Visual arts meeting

The Pahrump Arts Council and Spring Mountain Art Guild will host a social gathering 2:30 p.m., April 12 at the Community Library.

Donna Yarrell, art instructor at Great Basin College, will present a slide show and information about upcoming classes.

Bring a work of art for show and tell. Awards will be given for first and second.

Nathan Adelson and Nevada Federal Credit Union will host a financial workshop for those who want help with budgeting, avoiding fraud and identity theft.

'Flyball' tournament

There will be a "flyball" tournament beginning at 8 a.m., April 12 and 13 in Petrack Park behind the fire station.

"Flyball' is a team sport for dogs and their people.
