Chicken Ranch to host college girls
SPECIAL TO THE PVT
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- As part of its American Culture Program, female students and teachers from the prestigious Randolph College will take a 3,000-mile "field trip" to visit the world-famous and historic Chicken Ranch brothel tomorrow. They will visit the Pahrump business from 10:30 a.m. to approximately 12:30 p.m. to meet with management and some of the "working ladies." According to school officials the 12-credit, semester-long program is investigating sex and prostitution as an aspect of American culture -- "an intersection where our obsession with beauty and sex meets business and consumption." As prostitution is legal (through the brothel system) in much of Nevada, the college approached the Chicken Ranch to provide information and insight on legalized prostitution. The visiting party from the exclusive eastern college will include 11 female students (including one from Croatia and one from Mongolia), four teachers and an administrator. They will receive a tour of the brothel as well as a lecture on all aspects of its operation by its manager, Debbie Rivenburgh, plus the opportunity to meet, interact with and question the brothel's prostitutes. The American Culture Program combines classroom lecture and discussion with guest speakers and field trips in order to interpret America's history, politics, literature, music and art. The goal is to examine the ways Americans see themselves, their values, their history, their contributions to the world and their role in the world today. Randolph College is a small liberal arts college founded as Randolph-Macon Woman's College, known popularly as "Randy Mac," in 1891. It provides an education to 715 students from 44 states and 40 countries. "Pleasure for Sale," a television documentary on the brothel, has recently been airing on the Sundance Channel. |
