Since 1996, the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club and the Legacy Veterans have sponsored a benefit poker run. The event was held last Saturday.

"Over the Hump to Pahrump" riders left the Leatherhead Quarters in Las Vegas Saturday morning and made their way to Screwballs and the Blue Diamond Bar, also in Las Vegas. The next stop was the Spring Mountain Saloon and the ride ended at Saddle West Hotel and Casino.

Along the way, participants drew playing cards to see who could form the best winning poker hand.

Food for the event was provided by the mobile catering service, "The Pit Stop," owned and operated by Andre and Jennifer Richmond, where the hungry could get good burgers, cheeseburgers and hotdogs with all the fixings and sides.

There was also music and dancing provided by "On Target Band."

The benefactors of the proceeds differ from year to year but "always have something to do with our veterans," said Travis Ivey, a Vietnam veteran who served stateside during the conflict.

"They also use the proceeds to run the club, support the yearly dinner, provide prizes for any raffles and extend a helping hand to veterans in need if possible."

The run hasn't always ended at Saddle West, stated Ivey. "We have ended it in Crystal a few times," he said. "But the riders like it better at Saddle West. There's more for them to do."

"Moose," President of the club agreed with Ivey on the point of gratitude to Saddle West. "They helped us so much...even helped set up the stage. We couldn't have had such a successful event without their help," said Ivey.

There was no information on net proceeds from the ride available at press time.
