Meadows golfers win at Willow Creek
Las Vegas The Meadows, a Class 2-A team, won the New Hope Christian Academy Golf Tournament at Willow Creek Monday. The Mustangs shot 442 on the par 72, 6,300-yard layout, beating Las Vegas Mountain View (461), Needles, Calif. (464), Tonopah (489) and New Hope, a Pahrump-area private school (631). Lake Mead Christian Academy and Calvary Chapel also competed, but had no team scores. John Vasquez of Lake Mead was the medalist with 78, while Mike Sorensen had 79 for Mountain View. Denver Otteson of Tonopah had 81, as did Kevin Anderson of Needles. For Tonopah, Chris Greber had 95, Drew McLeod 99, Mike McLaughlin 103, Sam Bowen 111 and Alex Bridgman 145. "The 489 was our lowest team score ever; we hope to get to 460 by season's end," said Robert Otteson, the Muckers' coach. Otteson is averaging 87.5 strokes per 18 holes for the Class A Muckers. McLeod is at 102.4, Greber 102.8, Conrad Baker 110.75, Bowen 111, McLaughlin 112.7, Bridgeman 138.6 and Chris McCaw 158.5. The Muckers are at Battle Mountain Thursday, at Ely White Pine April 10, at Furnace Creek (Calif.) April 16, at Round Mountain April 17 and at Wells April 24 in regular-season matches. Mountain View will host the Southern regionals May 6, with the state tournament to be played May 12-13 at Needles. |
