Earth Day volunteers The Pahrump Earth Day Celebration will be 10-4 p.m., April 19 at Honeysuckle Park. Volunteers are needed for set-up, take-down and various other activities. Call Dave, 513-9710, or Heather, 727-8179 for more information. Toys for Tots coordinator Reggie Knight is urgently seeking a replacement for himself as Toys for Tots coordinator. The position is on a volunteer basis and is a nine-month commitment. The volunteer will work under the direction of the Marine Corps Reserve. Responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, organize and execute the annual toy collection. Two weeks of expense-paid training is required. Call 727-9970 for more information. Free tax aide service IRS trained counselors will be offering their services at the Bob Ruud Community Center, Room B, Basin Road and Highway 160. The goal is to provide free tax preparation and e-filing to young, low-income taxpayers and working seniors who may qualify for the earned income tax credit and may not be receiving it. The volunteers will be available Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., during the tax season through April 20. Appointments are necessary. Tobacco-free skate Skate for a tobacco-free community 6:30-9 p.m., Wednesday, April 2 at the Skate Zone. Admission is $6 and includes skates and laser tag. Beta Sigma Phi meets The Beta Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will meet 6 p.m., April 2 in Jennifer's home. There will be a discussion of contents for the boxes for the troops in Iraq. Genealogical Society meets The Pahrump Genealogical Society will meet 6:30 p.m., April 3 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, corner of West and Wilson. The speaker will be Brian Brown of China Ranch to show slides and speak about his ancestors who were early settlers of the Shoshone area. Visitors are welcome. Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m and the program begins at 7 p.m. The business meeting will conclude the event. Call 751-2175 for more information. Library offers Shakespeare The Pahrump Community Library's Tumbleweed Tales Poetry Group is offering a new class. "Shakespeare Made Simple" presents Shakespeare's plays in a way that makes it easier for all to understand. The sessions will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesdays, beginning April 8 at the library. The first play will be "The Taming of the Shrew." Bring your own copy or copies will be provided by the library. The class is free. Call 727-5930 for more information. Pet adoption The Nye County Animal Shelter will sponsor a pet adoption 10-2 p.m., April 12 at Hollywood Video, 250 S. Hwy. 160. The adoption fee for dogs is $64 and $36 for cats and kittens.
