Carpenter Canyon clean-up Saturday
Outdoor enthusiasts looking to celebrate the arrival of fall can enjoy one of the most beautiful places in the Spring Mountain Range while doing something to help Nevada's wildlife. In celebration of Public Lands Day, the Nevada Department of Wildlife is hosting a cleanup project at Carpenter Canyon located on the Pahrump side of the Spring Mountains. Department representatives will meet volunteers Saturday at the agency's Las Vegas office, 4747 Vegas Dr. The group will leave for Carpenter Canyon at 8 a.m. and should arrive at the Carpenter Canyon trail head around 10 a.m. The primary focus of the project will be the popular camping area adjacent to the stream which holds wild Lahontan Cutthroat Trout. The project should be finished in time for lunch around 1 p.m. with the return trip getting underway by 2 p.m. Bring a lunch and something cool to drink. The road can be very tricky but managed with high clearance two- or four-wheel drive vehicles. Participants will have the opportunity to see wildlife and the Nevada state fish so cameras and binoculars are a good equipment option. For information contact Christopher Pietrafeso at 1-702-486-5127, extension 3850. |
