William Barnak

William "Barney" Barnak, 79, passed away Sept. 22, 2007 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas.

Barney was born in Nanticoke, Pa. and graduated from Wilsonboro High School.

In 1946, at the age of 18, he joined the Army and served three tours of duty in Japan, Korea and Vietnam before retiring at Fort Lewis, Wash. in 1967.

He went on to another career as a longshoremen and retired as a Checker from local 52, Seattle in 1992.

Barney and his wife, Karen, moved to a small farm in Minn. in 1995. They raised Emus, and operated a meat market. He still found time for his woodworking and old tractor restoration.

In 2000, they discovered Pahrump and moved from Minn. to make Nevada their permanent home.

Barney was very outgoing and made lifelong friends wherever he lived. He even learned to play bingo after years of resistance and made many friends in the bingo halls.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Barney is survived by his wife Karen; sons Mark, Scott, Michael, Gary and Gene; daughters Pamela and Joanne, their families and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Anita.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Sept. 28 at the Lee Funeral Home Chapel. (09/22/07)

Teddy Ray Jones

Teddy Ray "Ted" Jones, 81, of Pahrump, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 22, 2007.

He was born in Globe, Ariz. and resided in Pahrump for 15 years.

He retired from the Marines, where he was a soldier and a gifted Mathematics teacher. Ted also retired from the US Postal Service.

He enjoyed traveling, different types of crafts, playing cards, sudoku and spending time with friends.

Ted loved the Lord and he and Amy spent most of their time worshipping and helping others find the way to the Lord.

He is survived by his loving wife Amy, sons Kelly, of Romoland, Calif. and Terry, of Albany, Ore.; sister Pat Garrow; brother Hearl Jones; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ted was known for his loyalty and dedication to those he loved.

His love and sense of humor has touched many and will continue to touch the lives of us all.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29 at First Southern Baptist Church, 741 Fehrs Way. (09/22/07)

Melvin Williams

Melvin "Mel" Williams, 71, passed away Sept. 22, 2007.

He was born June 27, 1936 in Severy, Kan. and was a resident of Pahrump since 1993.

Since 1974, Williams has been a Minister in the Church of God and retired as an electrician for the IBWW 11.

His wife, Patrice; sons Jim (Debbie) and Michael (Jeannette); daughters Julie (Marcus) Buettner and Angela (David) Wackett; son-in-law Scott Hamrick; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive him.

No services are planned in Pahrump. (09/22/07)

Michael Morin

Michael Reagan Morin, 31, passed away Sept. 24, 2007.

He was born Nov. 12, 1975 in Las Vegas and lived most of his life in Pahrump.

Michael worked as a collections manager and enjoyed fishing and camping in his spare time.

His wife, Jessica Riley Morin; son Jacob; daughter Kaylee; parents Rick Morin and Susan Shawgo; brothers Nathan and Kyle; sister Vanessa; grandmother Mae Morin and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins survive him.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30 at Pahrump Family Mortuary. (09/24/07)

Douglas Sutherland

Douglas Leroy Sutherland 52, passed away at home on Sept. 22, 2007.

He was born July 15, 1956 in Inglewood, Colo. and was a resident of Pahrump for four years.

He was a construction worker.

His neices Kathleen, Chelsea, Brooke, Christina and Abigail; nephew Daniel; brother Robert Eugene (Debra) Lorenz and sister Carolyn Ann Baines Davis survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ernie and Billie (F. L.) Sutherland.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28 at Oasis Outreach, 1061 E. Second Street, #A. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. (09/22/07)
