Hospital issues alert about 'epidemics'
Desert View Regional Medical Center issued and alert to the community stating that the hospital would not contact residents on an individual basis if there is a flu, pneumonia or any other type of epidemic. The community would be notified through the media.

Utilities Inc. requests major rate hike
A special meeting of Nye County commissioners has been called for 8:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Bob Ruud Community Center to discuss a stipulated agreement with Utilities Inc. of Central Nevada calling for a 78 percent revenue increase in water rates and an 85 percent increase in sewer rates.

Bishop nominees visit St. Martin's
The six nominees for bishop of the Nevada Episcopal Diocese began their "walkabout" in Las Vegas, then came to Pahrump Sept. 16. The Rev. Julie Platson welcomed the Rev. Susan Burns, Jeff Paul, Cathy Deats, Charles Funston, Al Keeney and Dan Edwards, as well as their spouses, to St. Martin's in the Desert Episcopal Church at 631 W. Irene St.

Adrian L. Ringo, 19, was arrested Sept. 17 after allegedly taking part in a robbery at the Horizon Market convenience store at 840 E. Highway 372.

County hires finance director, information systems manager
Tammy Otero, from Ely, was hired as the new Nye County finance director last week, while Kenneth Keeslir, whose experience stretches all the way to New York City and the Republic of Vietnam, was hired as director of management information systems.

Applications to be on the Pahrump Veteran's Memorial advisory board will be accepted for a little longer, now that the town board has approved making a correction on the original advertisement that ran.
