The Southern Nevada Class 3-A League football season gets underway Friday, with defending state champion Mesquite Virgin Valley at home against Las Vegas Faith Lutheran and title threat Overton Moapa Valley on the road to Boulder City.

In Class A eight-man football, Tonopah begins its quest for a fourth consecutive Central Division championship, when the Muckers host Spring Mountain. In another Central matchup, it will be Indian Springs at Round Mountain.

Virgin Valley moved to 4-1 in all games with a 48-0 rout of Northern 3-A League member Winnemucca Lowry; Faith Lutheran is 4-1 after beating Huntington Beach, Calif., 31-13.

Moapa Valley, 3-2, defeated Spring Creek of the Northern 3-A League 28-0, while Boulder City, 2-2, was idle.

Pahrump Valley, 0-4-1 after playing interstate rival Yucca Valley, Calif., to a 34-34 tie, is idle this week. The Trojans will host Virgin Valley and Faith Lutheran will be at home against Moapa Valley Oct. 5.

Spring Mountain, 2-2, outscored Laughlin 46-38, while Tonopah, 3-1, was idle last weekend.

Indian Springs, 2-2, overpowered Sandy Valley 47-12, with Round Mountain, 0-4, sitting it out last week.

Round Mountain plays at Tonopah Oct. 5, when Beatty travels to Indian Springs. The Hornets, 2-2, play a non-division game against Lund this Friday, with the kickoff at 3 p.m.
