Nobles' Ladies luncheon The Nobles' Ladies will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 26 at Mountain View Casino. Call 727-7519 for reservations or for more information. Skate Zone family night The Nye County Communities Coalition in partnership with St. Martin's in the Desert Episcopal Church is hosting a family night at the Skate Zone from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Sept. 30. Families (children accompanied by a parent or adult guardian) are invited to an evening of free skating including skate rental and laser tag. The event is limited to 100 people. Letters by Pony Express Support your community and participate in a page of history. Send a commemorative envelope via the Pony Express on Sept. 29. You may purchase a 2007 commemorative envelope for $5 at the Chamber of Commerce. Address the envelope, and the it will be cancelled by the Postmaster with a commemorative cancellation stamp on Sept. 29. The envelope will be carried by the Pony Express trail ride for delivery at the Wild West Extravaganza Boomtown (Saddle West) at approximately 5 p.m. The addressee will be announced from stage and the delivery made. Catholic Store The Catholic Thrift Store is holding a parking lot sale from Saturday, Sept. 29 through Saturday, Oct. 6. The store is located at 2031 E. Gamebird Road. Hours are , 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 8 a.m.-3 p.m Saturday. RCMS math night Rosemary Clarke Middle School will hold its first math night for parents and students from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 27 in the school cafeteria. The intent of this meeting will be to participate in a hands-on math activity, as well as to discuss several math activities we are working on this year. Students are welcome to accompany their parents. Pet Adoptions Hollywood Video and Nye County animal shelter volunteers will be hosting pet adoptions for pets who need loving homes. The event is scheduled for the second Saturday of each month and will begin Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adoption fees for dogs and puppies is $64, and includes spay/neuter, rabies vaccination and one-year county license. For cats and kittens, the fee is $36, and includes spay/neuter and rabies vaccination. Call 751-7020 for more information. Film Festival The Pahrump Arts Council will present the High Desert Shorts International Film Festival Sept. 27-30 at Pahrump Nugget. The film festival features short films and documentaries with related activities, awards and discussions. Thursday, Sept. 27, VIP tickets are available for a film viewing bus trip from the Nugget to the Winery and back with entertainment and refreshments at the Winery and a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre at the Nugget. The tickets are $75. For the Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre only, tickets are $35. The film competition begins Friday evening, Sept. 28 and continues through Saturday, Sept. 29. Winners Showcase and Animated Shorts on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 30. Advance tickets are available the at Chamber of Commerce weekdays only, PAC office on Monday and Thursday 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. or at the door of the Events Center in the Nugget before each event. Cost is $5 for each event. Contact PAC at 751-6776 for more information. Cub Scouts day camp Honeysuckle Park was filled with Cub Scouts from around the valley July 25-27. Leaders and parents from the eight Packs in Pahrump helped make the week fun and exciting. The first two days were split between Terribles Lakeside and Honeysuckle Park with fishing, games and crafts. Friday was a water battle and egg drop at the park. Saturday, July 28, all the Cub Scouts went to Camp Kimball at Mt. Potosi and spent the day shooting archery and BB guns, hiking, making leather and wood crafts and marshmellow guns. Thank you to all the Cub Scout Packs and to Troop 360 from Sandy Valley for your help and scouting experience and to all the local businesses who kept us in supplies throughout the weekend. Thanks also to the parents, family and friends for all your hard work. Pahrump swap meet The Model A club and the Unclub Boys will sponsor a swap meet from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Pahrump Valley Speedway. The event will have race cars, hot rods, collector cars, motorcycle shows and a swapmeet. Admission is $3 (children under 12 are free). Food and beverages will be available. Mexican-American breakfast Our Lady of the Valley Parish Hall is the location for a Mexican/American all-you-can-eat breakfast. Enjoy huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, chorizo, machaca, menudo, pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and beans. The breakfast will be held 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sept. 30 at the parish hall, 781 E. Gamebird Road. The cost is $6. Festival shuttle This year, the Fall Festival is making a free shuttle service available for the event. The shuttles will run to and from Saddle West and the Nugget, to the park from noon to 11 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 6. Foundation volunteers The Amanda Faye Brown Nevada Chapter of Melanoma Education Foundation is currently recruiting volunteers to get the word out on Melanoma and Skin Cancer awareness. Yucca Mountain open house The Department of Energy will present three new emergency response vehicles to Nye County during a ceremony at the Yucca Mountain Information Center, 2341 Postal Drive. An open house hosted by the Yucca Mountain Information Center, Valley Electric and Nye County Emergency Services will be form 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 29. There will be an interactive power demonstration and participation in emergency response related activities. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served. Melanoma Fighters Club "Mandy's Melanoma Fighters Club", seeks 2 to 3 preteen and teenagers from each middle and high school in Pahrump to promote Melanoma and skin cancer awareness in their school.
