Thoughtful deed

I would like to share a wonderful thing that happened to me Sept. 13 at Smith's.

I was a very careless person. I lost my purse and a wonderful, loving person turned it in.

My heart sank when I looked for my purse and it was nowhere to be found.

I want to thank you, whoever did a loving, thoughtful deed. Everything was intact.

Thank you again.

PEGGY LACKEY

Do something

Are we waiting for someone to be killed at the intersection of Highway 160 and Homestead/Winery Roads before we do something to control the traffic flow? This is unacceptable.

As a temporary measure, while waiting for that very expensive and complicated traffic light system, why don't we install four-way stop signs? There will probably be some accidents due to the complexity of the intersection, but at least they will be low speed and not life threatening in nature.

The same would be true for the intersection of Pahrump Valley Blvd. and Highway 372.

It is criminal to allow these problems to go unaddressed.

CHARLES SUMPTER

Shut up

To Steve Johnson -- shut up.

This family has enough grief to bear and does not need to hear any self righteous B.S.

I am a Vietnam veteran. I, too, was in country at 18. But for the grace of God, I came back alive.

People like you are why I got out of the military after one tour.

MYRON BISHOP

Don't criticize troops

Regarding the war in Iraq -- if you want to criticize Bush, that's fine. If you want to criticize our strategy, that's fine. If you want to criticize our lack of progress, that's fine. But criticizing our military in not fine.

The left wing Web site moveon.org has criticized our military. They have crossed the line. Our military are following orders and they are doing their job to the best of their ability. They don't need criticism.

This brings up an interesting question. Why has Hillary Rodham Clinton sided with moveon.org instead of siding with our military? If Hillary doesn't have the strength or character to challenge moveon.org, I seriously doubt if she has the strength or character to challenge terrorists.

GARY MARCHINKE

Thank you is not enough

Re: Nye County Sheriff Office and Homeland Heros

My 89-year-old mother and I attended the two-day self defense class for women.

We not only completed the class, but came away with a new sense of self esteem. This was a very intense and empowering experience.

I recommend that all women make time for yourself to attend the next class. In a perfect world, women and children should be safe from predators. This is not a perfect world; but by attending the class and doing the work, it puts the odds in your favor so if you are attacked, you can survive.

Special thanks to NCSO officers Deputy Dawn Moore, Deputy Daryl Taylor, Deputy Summer Danneker, Captain Bill Becht and Homeland Heros Director, Denise Plinkington for keeping the program alive.
