Soccer rules at Pahrump Valley High School. Trojan faithful can only hope the Trojans' reign continues.

The girls moved to 5-0 in all matches, 2-0 in the Southern Nevada Class 3-A League, with a 3-1 victory against visiting Ely White Pine Saturday. On Sept. 13, PVHS outlasted homestanding Overton Moapa Valley 5-3 in its league opener.

Tuesday, coach Greg Leseberg's team was at home against arch nemesis Boulder City and Saturday, the Lady Trojans trek to White Pine, with a noon start.

The boys were 4-0 in all matches, 1-0 in the 3-A league after a 6-1 rout of Overton Moapa Valley Sept. 13, Coach Gene Smith's squad played at Boulder City Tuesday.

The Trojans go to Lake Mead Christian Academy Thursday (2:30 p.m.), and will host White Pine Saturday (noon). White Pine was 5-0 in games against league opponents. The Bobcats defeated Lake Mead Christian Academy 3-1 and 3-1; downed Las Vegas The Meadows 5-1 and 5-0, and stopped Virgin Valley 5-2.

Both Pahrump Valley teams are going after the highest seeds possible for the Southern regionals, to be played Nov. 1 and 3 at the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex on the Cimarron-Memorial High School campus in Las Vegas.

The top four boys teams (out of eight) qualify for the regionals; the first four girls squads (out of six) advance to the playoffs.

Only the regional champion advances to the state tournament, to be played Nov. 9-10 in Reno. Three Northern League teams will fill the brackets in both the boys' and girls' semifinals.

In the win against Moapa Valley, Brittany Orr scored three goals, with Emily Poertner and Stephanie Ledford adding one each.

Against White Pine, Orr scored in the first 90 seconds to give PVHS a 1-0 lead. With 6:29 left in the game, Poertner, off an assist from Orr, made it 2-0, and the lead grew to 3-0 when Crystal Lopez scored at 4:16.

Balance is the key to success for the PVHS boys.

In the win against Moapa Valley, six players -- Tyler Raymer, Iggy Wagner, Martin Apolinar, Daimon Nelson, Omar Roman and Sergio Castro -- scored for the Trojans. Pahrump Valley continued to play stout defense in four games, it has surrendered just two goals. The Trojans, meanwhile, have booted home 31 goals.

NOTES -- In a preseason analysis of Northern 3-A boys' soccer teams, the usual powers -- North Tahoe and Truckee, Calif. -- are expected to be prime contenders again ... North Tahoe defeated Truckee 6-0 and played a 1-1 tie with Class 4-A Carson in recent games ... The picture is crowded in the girls' regular-season title chase ... Dayton, Winnemucca Lowry, and Spring Creek are expected to be the top three, with Zephyr Cove Whittell and Yerington also in the chase.
