Pahrump Model A's

The Pahrump Swapmeet will sponsor the Pahrump Model A's -- The Unclub Boys from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Pahrump Valley Speedway.

The event will have race cars, hotrods, collector cars, motorcycle shows and a swapmeet.

Admission is $3 (children under 12 are free). Food and beverages will be avalable.

Math night at RCMS

Rosemary Clark Middle School will hold its first math night for parents and students from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 27 in the school cafeteria.

The intent of this meeting will be to participate in a hands-on math activity, as well as to discuss several math activities we are working on this year. Students are welcome to accompany their parents.

Attention concerned parents/guardians: Teen Care provides free drug tests for your child.

The test detects marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, opiates, amphetamine, pcp, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, ectasy, oxycodone and methadone.

Elks soccer shoot

Pahrump Elks Lodge #2796 is conducting a soccer shoot with registration starting at 8 a.m. Sept. 22 at Honeysuckle Park.

The competition is open to boys and girls 13 years of age and under. The child's birthday should have occurred by Aug. 1.

A trophy will be awarded to the winners of each age group during the Elks youth awards banquet next May.

Participants should bring proof of age, such as a birth certificate or passport in order to register.

The Nevada Silver Tappers are starting new dance classes this month.

POW/MIA recognition day

The VFW 10054 will have a national POW/MIA recognition day at 6 p.m., Sept. 21 at the Post, 4651 Homestead Rd.

The public is invited to salute and honor the men and women who served and sacrificed to keep America free, and to salute the families of the missing who continue to keep the candle of hope burning.

Kiwanis Wine Tasting/Auction

The Kiwanis is having the Annual Wine Tasting and Auction at Saddle West Hotel and Casino 6 p.m., Sept. 22.

Events include entertainment by County Line and a silent and live auction with a car donated by Saitta-Trudeau as part of the inventory.

American Legion meeting

American Legion Post 22 will be operating the beer wagon at this year's Fall Festival.

All Legionnaires are encouraged to attend the meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at VFW Post 10054, 4651 Homestead Rd. and sign up to help with the beer wagon.

Nursing classes information

Great Basin College will hold an informational session for Registered Nurses interested in obtaining a Bachelor of Science - Nursing (BSN) degree.

Students interested in learning about the requirements for obtaining an associate of applied science degree and becoming a registered nurse are also invited to attend.

Faculty from the Great Basin College RN-BSN Program will discuss that program and the future delivery of GBC's associate of applied science degree in nursing to the Nye County.

Sessions will be held on Sept. 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon. Both sessions will be held on the Great Basin College campus, 551 East Calvada Blvd, Room 123.

Job Fair

The State of Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services is sponsoring a Job Fair and would like to invite job seekers in the community of Pahrump and surrounding areas to attend.

The Job Fair will be held in the banquet room at the Pahrump Nugget from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., Sept. 20 and is titled "Striving for Excellence."

Family to Family Sept. calendar

The September class schedule for Family to Family Connection, 160 S. Emery, is as follows:

Sept. 20 --Family vehicle safety class 3:45 p.m. Registration is required and there is a fee.

Sept. 21--Infant and child CPR 1 p.m. Registration is required.

Sept. 24--Family vehicle safety class 1 p.m.; Spanish only. Registration is required and there is a fee.

Sept. 28--Nevada Early Intervention Services explore and learn play group. 11 a.m.

The Back to Basics Parenting class is at 3 p.m. every Wednesday (parents with children birth to 5 years old).

Play group is at 1 p.m. every Thursday.

Resource Lending Library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Power wheelchairs

The Senior Wheels USA program makes power wheelchairs available to senior citizens and the permanently disabled at no cost to recipients if they qualify.

Power wheelchairs are provided to those who can no longer walk or self-propel a manual wheelchair and who meet the additional guidelines of the program. No deposit is required.

Letters by Pony Express

Support your community and participate in a page of history.

Send a commemorative envelope via the Pony Express on Sept. 29.

You may purchase a 2007 commemorative envelope for $5 at the Chamber of Commerce.

Address the envelope, and the it will be cancelled by the Postmaster with a commemorative cancellation stamp on Sept. 29.

The envelope will be carried by the Pony Express trail ride for delivery at the Wild West Extravaganza Boomtown (Saddle West) at approximately 5 p.m.

The addressee will be announced from stage and the delivery made.

Film Festival

The Pahrump Arts Council will present the High Desert Shorts International Film Festival Sept. 27-30 at Pahrump Nugget.

The film festival features short films and documentaries with related activities, awards and discussions.

Thursday, Sept. 27, VIP tickets are available for a film viewing bus trip from the Nugget to the Winery and back with entertainment and refreshments at the Winery and a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre at the Nugget. The tickets are $75. For the Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre only, ntickets are $35.

The film Competition begins Friday evening, Sept. 28 and continues through Saturday, Sept. 29.

Winners Showcase and Animated Shorts on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 30.

Advance tickets are available the at Chamber of Commerce weekdays only, PAC office on Monday and Thursday 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. or at the door of the Events Center in the Nugget before each event.

Daughters of Mary fish fry

The Daughters of Mary will have a fish fry for Oct. 5, and Nov. 2. There won't be one in Dec., but they will resume Jan. 4, of 2008.

The fish fry dinners are the first Friday of the month, at Our Lady of the Valley church hall, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on 781 E. Gamebird Road.

Fried or baked fish, FF's, Cole slaw, fish tacos, clam chowder, homemade desserts and beverages will be served.
