FISHING

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

It's cooling off and the fishing is picking up at the reservoirs on this popular Nye County fishery.

Nighttime lows are dipping into the mid-40s. Anglers have been reeling in both rainbow trout and largemouth bass, mostly from open water.

While most success is coming to boat anglers, some shore fishermen have also been netting some fish from the dams at Cold Springs and Haymeadow. Dove hunters have been taking full bag limits as well.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

Anglers should find improved fishing activity at this Lincoln County reservoir as daytime temperatures start to drop.

Prepared baits, worms, small lures or spinners, and flies should produce bites in the coming weeks.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

Traditional trout baits should goad a few rainbows into biting. Fish will become more active as temperatures begin to drop.

LAKE MEAD

Action for striped bass has picked up along the beaches near Special Events Beach.

Shore anglers have been catching the fish on lures mimicking shad that are using the area. Live shad and anchovies may also produce bites.

The Las Vegas wash area continues to yield small stripers to anglers jigging baits or casting top-water hardware.

Nevada Department of Wildlife creel clerks have seen few fish coming in from the Overton Arm.

LAKE MOHAVE

Boaters and shore anglers continue to find fair to good fishing out of Cottonwood Cove. Stripers moving into the area seem to have pushed bluegill out.

One angler reportedly found success with a diving lure that resembles a three-inch bluegill. Most stripers being caught are small, ranging from seven to 14 inches in length though there are some reports of larger fish being taken as well.

Some catfish are also being caught. Most fish are being caught in the early morning and late evening hours.

At Willow Beach fishing has been a little slow though anglers have been catching trout on PowerBait, artificial worms and small spinners or lures. Anglers have also been catching striped bass and catfish.

URBAN PONDS

Catfish should be stocked into each of five urban ponds sometime this week.

The final catfish plant for this year should be completed sometime in October. For cats try night crawlers, stinkbait or chicken livers fished on the bottom.

Bluegill will generally take mealworms fished below a bobber.
