Contractors panel warns against Precision Pools
By MARK WAITE
Homeowners are being warned about an unlicensed contractor building swimming pools in the Pahrump area. The Nevada State Contractors Board issued a warning about Precision Pools, which goes by the slogan, "We make 'em sparkle!" Precision Pools lists a phone number in the 702 area code for Las Vegas, but states in advertising claims it is a Pahrump-based company and a full-service pool and spa company licensed and insured. "This company is not licensed in Nevada and cannot do installations or hire subcontractors to do any work," the contractor's board states in a homeowner alert issued in late August (emphasis added). Art Nadler, a spokesman for the Nevada Contractors Board, said his agency hasn't scheduled a hearing on the company yet. "Supposedly there's some complaints coming in. When they do we'll investigate them," Nadler said. "We're aware of what's going on out there." Bernie Fleeman, Town of Pahrump ordinance enforcement manager, said there have been four complaints he's aware of that have been filed against Precision Pools. While the contractor's board is pursing the company for not having the proper contractor's license, Fleeman said the town of Pahrump will be citing the company for having only a handy man business license on file with the town. "Precision Pools' license was for cleaning pools and spas, basically for that type of maintenance, nothing to do with contracting work to install pools," Fleeman said. The notice of violation of the business license and notice to comply allows a seven day appeal period for the company to respond, Fleeman said. The town also networks with other agencies, like the state contractor's board, he said. Fleeman said some of the information about his investigation is currently confidential. But he said the first infraction concerning the pool building occurred at the end of July. Fleeman wouldn't get into details on the nature behind the complaints or any alleged damages. A highly-placed, local officials was the victim of one of the scams. "The fact anything is being built on that nature then that is a violation automatically," Fleeman said. A call to the phone number listed for Precision Pools was answered by a recorded message that didn't identify the business: "Hi, you got me. You know what to do. Leave a message." The homeowners alert issued by the state contractor's board suggests people who come in contact with representatives of Precision Pools should contact the state contractor's board investigative unit at 1-702-486-1100 extension 1144. Licenses can be verified by logging on to www.nscb.state.nv.us or by calling the contractor's board. |
