Dean 17th in tough Vegas race

Pahrump Valley High School's McKenzie Dean finished 17th, running against 4-A and higher classification competitors Saturday, in the Las Vegas Invitational Cross Country championships in Henderson.

Dean, a junior, was timed in 19:42.76 (the best time in the race for Class 3-A and lower runners), in the 3.1-mile race won by Heather Zytekewicz of Rancho Buena Vista, California; her time was 17:47.45.

Jo Jo Stanton of Boulder City was 34th in 21:09.32.

In the small-school girls' race, Stephanie Andros of Pahrump Valley was 14th in 25:20.70, with Ashlee Wolf 20th in 27:41.67 and Nicole Dillon 24th in 30:48.42.

The winner, in 21:03.49, was Brittany Hatchell of Las Vegas Faith Lutheran. Fourth was Sara Richner of Boulder City, in 21:52.54.

Pahrump Valley competed in a race Tuesday at Indian Springs. Saturday, the Trojans are tentatively slated to run in the Lake Mead Invitational at Hemenway Park.
