A comment by Candice Trummell, head of the Nevada Coalition Against Sex Trafficking and former Nye County Commissioner, on page A9 of the Sept. 7 Pahrump Valley Times was misleading. In it Trummell states if state legislators want to crack down on illegal street-walkers "the logical thing would be to allow it (prostitution) in places where you're going to have illegal prostitution."
Trummell said while she cited that logic in her response to a question, she wanted to make it abundantly clear she didn't subscribe to that theory. Research in Nevada and in Amsterdam, where prostitution is legal, shows it doesn't reduce illegal prostitution, she said.
